Exploring Pioneer Park in La Conner
Explore on your own or use the suggested route at the park to make your way to all of the most interesting places in Pioneer Park. The guided route begins once you head up the stairs, where you’ll gain 75 feet - a perfect warm-up! These stairs connect you from Pioneer Park to the brand new Conner Waterfront Park, so you can explore both.
At the top of the stairs, you’ll come across a beautiful and rustic outdoor performance venue, as well as a large picnic area with a shelter, where you can enjoy lunch and refill your water bottle to make sure that you stay extra hydrated while remaining under the sun.
Choose between two trails on the right or left side of the stairs. The trail on the right of the stairs will lead you uphill, with a slight incline, to the beautiful Rainbow Bridge. The trail on the left will lead you underneath the Rainbow Bridge, where you’ll be able to enjoy an easy downhill hike. Artistic murals, green trees, and dazzling wildflowers will greet you along the way down to Sherman Street, where you’ll see all of the boats launching for a day out on the water.
If you want to take a longer hike, follow the Rainbow Bridge, which will bring you across the Swinomish Channel to the Swinomish Reservation. Along your hike, you’ll be able to learn about the culture and history of the Swinomish Tribe while observing a beautiful native plant garden. These hiking trails are perfect for exercise, fresh air, and some education on those who once resided on the land.
