A Country Road Trip from Seattle through Skagit Valley!

Head I-5 North!!
Get off on the Conway, Lake McMurray Ext 221 and venture along Fir Island. You must stop at Snow Goose Produce! This is quite the little farmers market filled with local fresh and smoked seafood, artisan cheeses, fresh breads, plants, local produce from Skagit Valley and of course the most amazingly huge homemade ice cream cones ever. Then head into La Conner enjoy boutique shopping or stop by the Calico Cupboard

and grab and some AMAZING made from scratch gooey cinnamon rolls or GF cookies to take to your walk to Padilla Bay Nature Trail. Padilla Bay is such a great walk for everyone as it is flat, benches to relax, great views of the Salish Sea and miles of nature’s preserve with abundant wildlife. Also, a great spot to bike.

Then you have a couple options of fun spots to head to. Drive into the small farm town of Edison and check out Bow Hill Blueberry for all thing’s blueberry! Dried blueberries, juice or even pickled blueberries. Or head over to Terramar Brewstillery for a hand-crafted beer. This is a new hot spot catching all the buzz. Be sure not to catch a buzz though if you’re driving!

Or drive into Mt Vernon and check out some fantastic farm stands off of McLean Rd full of local produce and flowers. Definitely Stop by Schuh farms on Memorial Highway. It is always a great place to find local produce and treats.

Make your way back to La Conner and right at the roundabout there is another great farm stand Hedlin’s Family Farm. Lots of great local ingredients including flour, cheese, eggs, honey, berries, corn and known for their flowers and tomatoes!

Now get freshened up in your room at the La Conner Country Inn for dinner. Take a walk down the board walk to Nell Thorn Bistro and Bar right on the water. They offer a beautiful dinner inspired by the food’s grown right here in our region with a gorgeous view of the Swinomish Channel. Definitely make a reservation!

Don’t forget to have your camera with you. The sunset is amazing right here in La Conner overlooking the channel!
